Uckfield crestUckfield FC joined Division Two of the Sussex County League in 1955, with their best finishes being 4th in 1957/58 and 1960/61. The club suffered relegation from the County League in 1966, having been reprieved after finishing bottom the previous season.

The club returned to Division Three in 1996 as Uckfield Town FC, finishing 5th in 1998/99. However, they finished bottom of the table at the end of the 2002/03 but were speared relegation due to the resignation of Oving FC from the County League.

2003/04 saw an improvement on the pitch and a mid-table finish. Uckfield also reached the final of the Division 3 League Cup, losing to league champions Crowborough Athletic.

The following season saw a similar progression - up to 4th in the League, and although they failed to make the League Cup Final, Uckfield were beaten semi-finalists in both that competition, and also the Sussex Intermediate Cup: losing to eventual winners Rustington on each occasion. The club once again demonstrated its prowess in cup competitions in 2006/07, reaching the final of the Intermediate Cup before losing to Pease Pottage Village.

By comparison the club’s final League positions in both 2005/07 and 2006/07 can only be viewed as a disappointment.

Description of ground
A narrow lane leading uphill past the local Police Station opens out into a small car park at the entrance to the Victoria Pleasure Grounds, also home to Uckfield Town FC. Immediately to the right is a large modern building that serves as the clubhouse on match days, and also the dressing rooms.

The pitch is situated in a dip, about 100 yards in the distance, and is in quite an attractive setting, although there is no cover, making the Pleasure Ground anything but when the weather is bad! A grass bank, providing a good view of the action, runs the length of the near touchline, into which two robust if small brick dugouts have been been built.

Directions
Enter town from A22, past McDonalds on right. Turn right at junction and proceed along Old Eastbourne Road. The entrance to the ground can be found at the top of a lane, immediately after the Police Station on your right.

Nearest railway station: Uckfield (20 mins).
